Biography
Being a teenager who’s obsessed with music is one thing, but one who can’t get enough of Opera is a little different. When Taylor was little she loved being the center of attention, and nothing got the job done better than singing “Ave Maria” for the middle school talent show. Ever since hearing Charlotte Church sing on her TV commercial, it has been love at first listen with classical music.
Her first break was being given the chance to sing “The National Anthem” for both the Colorado Rockies and at INVESCO field for the Denver Broncos. She has performed for the Broncos twice, and been asked back to sing for the Rockies since the age of fourteen. In the fall of 2003, she was asked to perform “Somewhere” with Canadian artist, Steph Carse. He flew Taylor out to Florida to record it for his CD, and then again a few months later to record the duet for his concert, the live PBS special.
Following this appearance, she received word that the demo CD that had been sent to Sony Classical was VERY well received. She received a call from Jeremy Caulton explaining that Sony wanted a promotional video to take to the top executives. The video that has been listed on this website is the exact video interview that was sent in! Once Sony received it, Taylor was on a plane to New York City! Having never been there, and it was even more amazing than one could ever have imagined. Like many before her, she nearly fell over looking at the skyscrapers! The whole audition day was a blur of one of the best days of her life. Her mom was with her as well as a very close friend and teacher, and afterwards she describes how they all floated out of the building. The audition was very long, with many questions, and a lot of singing. She was later told by Peter Gelb, a person she praises as one of the kindest most intelligent men that she’s ever met, that her songwriting sealed the deal. When asked if she wrote music she said she did, but didn’t have an original prepared. However, she could perform the Evanescence song, “My Immortal”, very well with piano and voice. She played the song, and knew she had nailed the whole interview. A week later, she was signed to a seven album deal, and set to record in early 2004. Unfortunately, before she could begin recording, Peter Gelb left Sony, and the new president didn’t want to put money into new artists since the companies were struggling. Peter called her after she had been informed of the news, and was more professional and caring than anyone she had ever worked with. As hard as it was, she felt that she had achieved her dreams of getting a deal, meeting some of Charlotte’s team of executives and seeing New York City. It also gave her confidence to know that she could do anything she set her mind to, and she adamantly says she will always have faith in that.
Now, after completing her senior year at the Purchase College Conservatory of Music, she has earned her Opera Performance degree. She has been living in New York for four years, and couldn’t be more excited about what’s next. This year, she had a wonderfully challenging role as Micaëla in George Bizet’s CARMEN, and performed a very successful senior recital. She also had a wonderful experience playing the role of the First Lady in Mozart’s, THE MAGIC FLUTE the previous year and cannot wait to do more operatic roles. As much as she loves performing beautiful, classic music, she have been writing her own, and is am eager to start performing her own originals. Until she can record her next album, she has re-released Simple Gifts, the first CD from 2005. Her parents made it possible to record and release it, and without their constant support, she couldn’t have made an album after Sony fell through, and wouldn’t be in the great place that she is now. She expresses great pride in this CD, and really hopes that the listener enjoys it as much as she did creating it! Her love and thanks constantly go out to everyone for all of the unwavering support, and for coming on this amazing journey with her.
